'Third of firms are on brink'
A THIRD of the UK footwear industry has been pushed to the brink of failure by low growth, sliding profits and escalating debts, according to research.
The findings were released by industry analysts Plimsoll Publishing which carried out a financial health check for the top 1,000 companies in the footwear sector.
The findings revealed that supply is outstripping demand and also claimed that all companies are facing a difficult trade off between protecting profit margins and appealing to price sensitive customers.
