We’re searching for the next big thing in shoes, a truly undiscovered talent, a creative person worthy to design for the global brand that is Hush Puppies!

That’s right, in April 2009 we’re launching a nationwide Shoe Design Competition where one talented winner will have their shoe manufactured and sold exclusively across the UK by high street giant Schuh. Anyone over 16 can enter and design is open to men’s and women’s categories.

Independent Kids is the secret ingredient in the mix of many successful independent kidswear clothing retailers in the UK.

It is an established and successful kidswear show which has been offering exciting middle market European brands to department stores and independent kidswear retailers since 2002. This year it will be expanded to include some UK brands such as Joules, Hippy Chick, Little Linens, Emile-et-Rose and Pretty Originals. The wide variety of clothing brands exhibiting will offer both boys and girls products from birth to 16 years. In addition a carefully chosen and complementary selection of gifts, christening wear, accessories and occasionwear will be available. Independent Kids will run for three days, from Sunday 5th July to Tuesday 7th July 2009 at the purpose built exhibition centre ‘Cranmore Park’ near junction 4 of the M42 – just 10 minutes south of the NEC.

Admission and parking are free to all independent kidswear buyers who can relax in our coffee lounge with a complimentary cappuccino and enjoy a complimentary lunch freshly prepared by our in-house chef and his team.

July 2009 | Jobs going at record rate
RETAIL sales have fallen heavily and jobs in the sector are being lost at a record rate according to the latest figures from the Confederation of British Industry.  
However, footwear stores are coping better than most, with many reporting a degree of sales growth over the last two months.  
Overall, the Distributive Trades Survey revealed falling sales in 52 per cent of retailers compared with 27 per cent who saw a sales increase. 
Andy Clarke, chairman of the CBI distributive trades panel, said: 'February was another tough month and sadly many retailers are cutting jobs as shoppers stay away and the recession deepens. But conditions were not quite as harsh as they were at the very beginning of the year and in the run up to Christmas."
